We are Grace and Irving Borowitz, partners in Chemistry. We enjoy the pleasure of a career as Chemistry Professors. Irv retired from Yeshiva University after 26 years. He joined Grace at Ramapo as Visiting Scientist and Adjunct Professor. After two years at American Cyanamid and six years at Upsala College, Grace has spent her careeer at Ramapo College of New Jersey. She has been Full Professor since 1980. Ours is also a marriage of Columbia (Irv, PhD Organic Chemistry, 1956) and Yale (Grace, PhD Organic Chemistry, 1960).
Together we have trained 43 undergraduate students at Ramapo and 5 at Upsala in research. Irv's list numbers 104 graduate and undergraduate students as well as Postdoctoral fellows since 1960. These students were trained at City College, Lehigh University, Upsala College, the Belfer Graduate School of Science at Yeshival University, Yeshiva College, and Ramapo College. We have been teaching Organic Chemistry in the summers at Columbia University since 1987.We have been active in the American Chemical Society, Sigma Xi, the local Yale and Columbia Universities Alumni Associations. Grace has served a a Councilor representing the New York Section of the ACS since 1975, served as Chair of the New York Section, and is year 2000 Chair of the Division of Professional Relations. Our research interests include organophosphorus chemistry, ionophores, and molecular modeling. Grace's hobby is photography and she covers many important events with her cameras
We retired from Ramapo College after 29 years on June 30, 2002. Grace is now Professor Emeritus. We keep sharp in our chemistry by teaching summer sessions in Organic Chemistry at Columbia University. ACS NY, National, and PROF activities as well as JCC on the Palisades interactions also keep us busy. We also apply our PR background in chemistry arrangements by doing the Publicity for our Temple Emeth, Teaneck.
