The main components (you decide which to use) to building an e-portfolio include:
- Create your profile. Go to Profile
- Upload your files. Go to My Portfolio > My Files
- Create a blog to add to your portfolio to add your thoughts and reflection about your work.
Go to My Portfolio > My Blogs > Add Blog
- Create a View so others can see your portfolio (this is required). You can have multiple views for different people accessing your portfolio. Go to My Portfolio > Create View (subsequently edit this view). This is where you can add the specific components (files, profile, blogs) to a portfolio view. You will also give the instructor access to view your portfolio as part of this process.
Once you create a view, you need to add your professor and grant them view access.
Login and select "My Porftolio" > "My views".
Click on "Create View" > This will step you through the process of creating a view, including 1.) creating a new view - view name, description and name dislplay format, 2.) create view layout - select and drag the desired blocks to the appropriate column and position of your desired layout, and 3.) who can access the view.
"Who can access thie view > You want to make sure to "Add Public" to the view for it to be accessed by the public which means it will not require a login. You can add begin and end dates to control how long it is available if desired. (Other options for view access include logged in users, friends, or searching the system for users). Make sure to "Save" the view.
To provide the link to your e-portfolio, click on the name of the view and copy and paste the URL into an e-mail to invite someone from outside the college to view their portfolio.
Yes, you can create different "views" within the same e-portfolio account. You can have one view for your instructor that shows your course work components of e-portfolio, that you give your instructor access to. Then you can create a separate view, with different components for any other purpose, such as for a prospective employer.
You can include a variety of content including files (e.g. PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) which can be organized into folders, digital images and multimedia content. You can embed videos from the following sites: youtube.com, video.google.com, teachertube.com and scivee.tv.
Mahara e-portfolio also provides tools that allow you to create a personal profile (profile tab), create blog posts (blog tab) and a resume, as well as blocks of text. You can embed an external RSS or ATOM feed (for example, you already have a blog outside of Mahara that you would like to feed into your e-portfolio).
There is a 75 MB quota for your e-portfolio.
For your security, you will be automatically logged out of the system after a 60 minute period of inactivity. To log back in, go to moodle and click through to Mahara. |
