The Society for Women in Philosophy
congratulates Dr. Nancy Tuana,
the Distinguished Woman Philosopher of 2008.
Each year the Eastern Division of the Society for Women in
Philosophy comes together to honor a woman philosopher whose contributions to
the support of women in philosophy and to philosophy itself are outstanding and
merit special recognition. This year Dr. Nancy Tuana has been selected. A panel and reception celebrating
Dr. Tuana
accomplishments will be organized for the Eastern Division meeting of the
American Philosophical Association in New York in December 2008.
According to her website, Dr. Tuana is the DuPont/Class of 1949 Professor of
Philosophy and
Director, Rock Ethics Institute at Pennsylvania State University. Her
interests include Science Studies with an emphasis on epistemological and
ethical issues and Feminist Philosophy. Recently she has published
Engendering Rationalities, co-editor with Sandra Morgan, SUNY Press, 2001
and
Revealing Male Bodies, co-editor with William Cowling, Maurice Hamington,
Greg Johnson, and Terrance MacMullan, Indiana University Press, 2002. She
also edits or co-edits the following: Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist
Philosophy, co-editor with Laurie Shrage;Re-reading the Canon, Series
Editor, Penn State Press; and Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy,
co-editor with Sally Haslanger, entries on feminist philosophy. You
