Shalom Gorewitz, CA, Statement on Academic Structure posted Dec. 2, 2003

In response to Michael Edelstein's post:

At the heart of a video art studio there is a matrix through which all

incoming signals can be routed and looped endlessly mixing multiple channels

simultaneously. If we think about the natural development of learning and

consider progression of courses that best suit various kinds of learners, we

might find a matrix system that seamlessly weaves all areas of curriculum.

I'm ready to throw my "discipline" into the hat for a reSchooling

experience.  I agree with Michael when he asserts that we should not be

looking at other institutions as models for this or that structure, rather

looking at Ramapo's unique experiences and traditional willingness to

experiment.  Now is the time to push postmodernist potentials in order to

synthesize and discover the new answers to these continuous questions.  We

can retreat into 20th century academia or help other innovative Colleges

lead the way into the future of college teaching and learning.
