This model would orient faculty to the program (or convening group) level
rather than to the school level. Programs would be led by rotating program
heads who would have greater responsibility and authority than conveners.
All programs would be organized under schools with deans, but these schools
would serve as administrative entities rather than as thematic learning communities.
Each faculty member would teach in at least one program; many would teach in two or even three programs, but teaching responsibilities would be more clearly defined. There would be no reason to divide major programs between or among schools, although a faculty member in one school could offer courses for a program housed in another school. In terms of curriculum, there probably would be little if any reason for school cores. Two goals of the model would be to strengthen the majors and provide a structure that is clear to students and others outside the college.
