4/28/04 by the Board of Trustees.
RESOLUTION
ENDORSING THE UNIT PLAN
Whereas For over a year, the faculty and its designated committees have been developing a curriculum proposal that has come to be known as the Unit Plan, and
Whereas The main goals of the Plan are to (1) provide faculty with a 3/3 teaching course load and a Flex Unit during which faculty can spend more time on research and other duties, (2) strengthen the general education and major curricula with respect to the mission of the college, and (3) generate a workload model that more closely matches that of similar liberal arts colleges; and
Whereas It is projected that based on the work done to date the Unit Plan will provide a more coherent general education curricula and more focused majors, redistribute the faculty workload so that more time is devoted to activities such as research, grant writing, and special service projects, and will produce a work load model that attracts a stronger pool of faculty candidates in the coming decade, and
Whereas Before the Unit Plan can be implemented, the faculty and administration must continue their efforts to explore, address and reasonably resolve issues related to:
· Flex Unit assignments;
· The appropriate modification of the existing curriculum;
· The percentage of adjuncts teaching credit courses;
· The impact of the Unit Plan on the college budget;
· The impact of the Banner Migration;
· Issues under the AFT collective bargaining agreement;
· The applicability of any State laws, rules and regulations, and
Whereas The faculty and the administration are desirous of continuing their efforts to address all outstanding issues and are seeking the Board’s endorsement subject to the resolution of outstanding issues, therefore be it,
Resolved That subject to the resolution of the outstanding issues as identified above, and the overall programmatic and budgetary needs of the College, the Ramapo College of New Jersey Board of Trustees hereby endorses the Unit Plan, and directs the administration to implement the Unit Plan as soon as practicable.
