9/12/03
Recommendations: Library Task Force (Not in Priority Order)
Strengthen and support the library’s organizational and governance structure to parallel that of other academic units. This includes direct reporting to the Chief Academic Officer, the role and selection of the College Librarian/Dean and the status of library faculty.
Develop and implement a formal Information Literacy plan that integrates Information Literacy competencies into the revised General Education Program and includes outcomes assessment.
Recruit faculty and staff with appropriate professional and technical skills to fulfill our service mission. Retain faculty and staff through clearly identified development opportunities, using internal or off-campus services.
Review and adjust staffing, collections and services in relationship to enrollment and needs of residential and/or distance education population.
Continue commitment to collection growth through special funding while allowing internal flexibility to appropriately balance print/non-print and monographic/serial publications.
Develop formal partnerships with various teaching and learning units and house in a centralized new library building. Partnerships may include: the Writing Center, the Faculty Resource Center, TLTR, FYS, Teacher Education, and the Holocaust Center. The development of a Peer Research Center and an Instructional Design unit are also recommended.
Participate in statewide or national consortia at a leadership level.
Pursue external funding opportunities for service enhancements.
