Co-Op Computer Science
Amruth Kumar
It is recommended that Computer Science students take up to 9 credits
of Co-op before they graduate. You may sign up for a co-op with any of
the faculty teaching Computer Science. Visit the co-op office (Cahill Center
for Experiential Learning) in C 209 to find out how to sign up for a co-op.
The requirements and grading policy listed below apply to co-ops with me.
Requirements
The requirements for a co-op are:
- A weekly journal. This journal will list each week:
- what you did on the job;
- what you learned on the job.
You may submit your journal in one of two ways:
- You may send it by email to me at the end of every week, at amruth@ramapo.edu
- You may maintain a web page, update the web page every week, and send
me just the URL of the web page. In this case, do not take down your web
page until after you are graded.

- A term paper, due the first day of the last week of classes:
- The term paper must be 10 pages, single-spaced, in Times Roman 12 point
font. The margins may be no wider than 1 inch each.
- You must get the topic of the term paper approved by me at the beginning
of the semester. The topic is usually related to how computer technology
is being used either in your job or some interest of yours.
Grading Policy
Your co-op grade will be based on the following items:
- Journal
- Maintained regularly - 1 point
- Accurate/complete - 1 point
- Term paper
- Appropriate length - 1 point
- Minimal errors in the paper - 1 point
- Sources are cited and listed - 1 point
- Topic is appropriate - 1 point
- Content quality - 2 points
- Report from the employer - 2 points
Note that the above items add up to 10 points. Each point is worth 1
sign grade.
If you cannot finish your term paper on time, you are welcome to ask
for an I grade. Note that the deadline for requesting I grades is usually
the last day of classes/finals. Consult your Schedule of Classes,
available from the Registrar's office for the correct date.
