For Luminis calendar users, please print out your current calendar prior to the outage.

Users that synchronize their calendars with MS Outlook or a handheld device will need a new synchronization tool installed on their desktop computer.   To have your synchronization software upgraded for use with the new Luminis calendar, please contact the help desk at x7777 or helpdesk@ramapo.edu to schedule an appointment. You should synchronize your data prior to the outage.

Calendar

The calendar interface has changed some, although most of the functionality is similar. Some things have moved, some have been renamed, and some functionality has been added. Here are some of the changes in the calendar:

Subscribe to calendar has moved, and is now under "Manage calendars" in the calendar pull down menu. This is where you can subscribe to calendars such as academic calendar, the faculty calendar, or another user's calendar.

Calendar sets are now called calendar groups. These have also moved and are located under "manage calendar" > "new calendar group" in the calendar pull down menu. Calendar groups allow you to group multiple calendars into one combined view.

Calendar sharing permissions are now located under "manage calendar" > "edit properties" in the calendar pull down menu. This allows you to share ownership of calendars, as well as edit specific sharing permissions from viewing to editing. Other options you can set here include updating calendar name, description, availability and setting calendar time zones.

Calendar tasks settings are more detailed now. Once the task is added, go to "edit" actions to change these settings. Tasks can be private (blocked) from subscribe to personal calendar, or can be public. You can also categorize tasks (type), as well as track the progress level of completion.

Calendar events can now be private or public. This setting is selected under "privacy" when creating the new event details. Events can also be categorized by type.

Events and tasks can be sorted by type.

Repeating events are now called "recurring" events.

The calendar now has its own address book.

Groups and Courses

Groups and courses in Luminis IV have some minor changes as follows.

There is now increased capacity for file size limits that can be uploaded to courses and groups:

• There is a total of 250 MB of disk space available per group or course for storing photos and shared files.
• The maximum file size for upload to file sharing in course and group homepages is 40 MB. (File sharing supports all file types).
• The maximum file size that can be uploaded for photos is 2 MB. (Supported files for photos are .jpg, .jpeg and .gif.)

HTML Formatting:

• HTML formatting has been added to many features in groups and courses such as news, links, photos, announcements. This allows you to add formatting to text such as bold, italic, tables, lists, alignment, color, and more.

Message Board:

• You can now search the message board by either title, author or date.

Channels

Now there are new channels that you can add to your layout to alert you to activity in courses and groups without having to navigate to the courses and groups. The My Calendar channel has more features. To add channels, go to the "content/layout" link. New and modified channels include:

• Course Studio Activity Channel
  Provides a list of information that has been updated in a user’s registered courses since that user’s last login to the course home pages. This channel can be customized by users to display only selected courses; users can also customize which types of new content are displayed in the list.
• Course Leader Activity Channel
  Available to course leaders only, this channel provides information about content on the course homepage that is waiting for approval so it can be publicly displayed to all course members. This channel can be customized by users to display only selected courses; users can also customize which types of content are displayed in the list.
• Group Studio Activity Channel
  Provides a list of information that has been updated in a user’s associated groups since that user’s last login to the group home pages. This channel can be customized by users to display only selected groups; users can also customize which types of new content are displayed in the list.
• Group Leader Activity Channel
  Available to group leaders only, this channel provides information about content on the group homepage that is waiting for approval so it can be publicly displayed to all course members. This channel can be customized by users to display only selected groups; users can also customize which types of content are displayed in the list.
• My Calendar Channel
  This channel is not new, but has improved features. You can now select the calendar you want to display information for, as well as how much information you want to be shown.
• Site Map
  The Site Map channel provides users with an overview of all of the channels on all of their tabs. Each channel name is a link that, when clicked, shows the selected channel in the focused state.

Web Self-Service

For enhanced security, access to Web Self-Service through Luminis will require re-authentication.

Sending Targeted Announcements

If you are a user with administrative rights to send targeted announcements (determined by College policy), you will be receiving information on changes to this area.
