There are some basic calendar options or preferences that you will want to set to customize the view settings for your calendars. This lesson will review the different settings, as well as import and export features.
Click on the calendar "options" tab to display the preference settings for your calendar. When the tab opens, it defaults to the "settings" on the left column, which is highlighted with a yellow icon. Let's take a look at the settings displayed here.
1. Group Invitations: This setting would only apply if you use "calendar sets" and have them displayed while you create an event. This allows you the option to invite all calendars in the set to that event. This might be useful for a faculty member who had a calendar set of all their current course calendars and they were adding an event and wanted to invite all their students to the event.
2. Date: This allows you to set your preference for how the date is displayed. Select the pull down menu to choose the option you prefer.
3. Time: This allows you to set your preference between using 12 hour clock, or 24 hour clock.
4. Day: This allows you to determine what time you want your calendar display to begin and end, as well as how the time gets split between as little as every 15 minutes to as long as every four hours. This can be seen in the daily and weekly views.
5. First Day of the Week: This allows you to select the day of the week you want your calendar to begin on. It also allows you the option to exclude Saturday or Sunday from the week and month views. This is a nice feature if your calendar is work related, and you do not work weekends because it allows you to eliminate days from the calendar view that you do not need, and gain some better use of the space on your screen.
6. Time Zone: This allows you to select the time zone for your calendars. For Mahwah area, select America/New York by clicking on the blue text link.
7. Event and Task Reminders: If you want to receive an e-mail reminder for all events and tasks, check the box to select this option. You need to indicate the how many minutes, hours or days you want to receive the e-mail prior to the event/task. You also need to fill in the e-mail address that you want the reminder to be sent to. Multiple e-mails can be entered as long as they are separated with a comma (,) or semicolon(;).
8. Save Changes: You must click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom, to save any changes made to your calendar settings.
