Encore by Christian Grissoni
Eminem has done it again. His new album, Encore, defeated expectations by both embracing maturity, and being his most adolescently outrageous, gut-bustingly funny effort since THE SLIM SHADY LP. On the track Mockingbird, he speaks out to his daughter “pretty baby but I promise, mama’s gonna be alright…..I’m just sorry you were there and had to witness it first hand…all I ever wanted to do was just make you proud.” He jumps around from serious songs to comical tracks to songs that make you want to just turn the volume up and nod your head back and forth while driving your car. There are typical Eminem tracks on this album, for instance in Just Lose It he mocks Michael Jackson “come here little kiddies, on my lap/ guess who’s back with a brand new rap/ and I don’t mean rap as in a new case/ of child molestation accusations/ what else could I possibly do to make noise/ I done touched everything, but little boys.” Another track is a call from a colleague saying that Michael called and is out-raged. In spite of the call that Michael made, Eminem makes another humorous track mocking Michael throughout the song with lines like “you better beat it because I don’t ca re if you are the man in the mirror.” Every track is enjoyable and leaves you anticipating for the next verse. Eminem surprises everyone with his lyrics and actions because he just doesn’t care. He is known for having odd themes to his albums, for instance The Eminem Show takes place at a carnival. The theme of this album is a playbill show where at the end he opens fire, killing his audience. This is heard at the end of the last track. However, this is expected from Eminem because he adds the anger in his character to his work. |
