Emphasis will be placed on a study of functional groups involving the synthesis, reactions, and utility of each group. The laboratory/discussion will apply the principles that have been studied to the solution of structural and synthetic problems and will include the utilization of modern instrumental techniques. Nucleic acids and protein synthesis TESTING AND GRADING: Three tests will be given on the following days: Tuesday, July 17 Wednesday, July 25 Thursday, August 2 A two hour comprehensive final exam will be given on the last Thursday, August 8th. For the overall course grade, all test scores will be averaged and will comprise 90% of your course grade. The laboratory grade is computed by your laboratory instructor and will be assigned separately. In order to pass the course your average must be higher than 65. You must keep all graded lab reports and tests until you receive your final grade in case there are questions about your grade. Make-up tests will not be given. Letter grades will be assigned as follows: A range 90-100 B range 80-89.99 C range 70-79.99 D range 65-69.99 F range below 65.00 A plus or minus may be added to your letter grade if your average is near the top or bottom of the letter grade range. Homework questions from the textbook will be assigned at the conclusion of each chapter. The homework will not be collected but will be the focus of discussion at the recitation sessions noted on the laboratory schedule.
