Walter Dean Burnham’s American Politics Class Syllabus Restoration Project:

For me and many other political science students from the University of Texas, having Walter Dean Burnham as a first mentor demonstrating the scope and scale of the study of American politics was immeasurably useful. His stature in the field and deep knowledge of the ebbs and flows of partisan politics (that often included off-the-cuff electoral insight on remote counties from the 19th century) place him in the pantheon of great scholars. He would be the first to admit, however, that he did not enjoy any computer skills; he would hand out his typewritten syllabus fall after fall. In a fit of dissertation procrastinitus in 2004, I used EndNote to marshal all of WDB’s reading assignments, correct the typos, expand his citations to their full version, and reconstitute his syllabus, week by week, including both his required and suggested readings. In a nod toward transparency, I appended his original in the document. Additionally, you can download the EndNote file.

Burnham's US Political Institutions and Processes Syllabus (EndNote file v6.0).
