The following test-taking tip list is based,
in part, on the publication "Test Anxiety" available at the Ramapo
College Center for Health and Counseling Services located in D-wing. I
encourage you to review the many valuable handouts they have on display in
the hall on various topics.
 |
Get a good night sleep the night before.
A "clear head" can be the single most important factor affecting
performance. |
 |
Have a moderate breakfast and avoid coffee
if it makes you jittery. |
 |
Arrive at the test location early, go to
the restroom, and avoid classmates who generate anxiety. |
 |
If waiting for the test is making you
nervous, read a magazine or newspaper to distract yourself. |
 |
Avoid last minute cramming. |
 |
Organize a "test-taking kit" in
a ziploc bag. For my classes this would include 2 pencils, a pen, a
good (Staedtler) eraser, a calculator, highlighter, watch and a ruler. |
 |
If you blank out during the exam, sit
back, close your eyes, and breath deeply for a minute or two or as long as
you need. |
 |
When you get the exam take a minute to
review it. This will give you perspective and help you to allocate
your time. |
