Evaluations from July 2nd, 2002
Topic: Introduction/"The Matrix"/ Syllabus and Requirements/
"Babe"
Rank today's presentation from 1 to 4 (1=totally useless and
4=Very useful)
1. Overall evaluation of class: 3.3
- because I felt we had to be cut short of certain topics
2. What was the most useful or meaningful thing you learned or
insight you gained during the session?
- Don't always assume and react before you have all the
facts
- That I need to be more observant & "in tune" to what is
going on-specifically in the area of hidden social messages I, too
often, take things at face value.
- Hidden messages w/in childrens shows. While story dispalys
compassion, it brings reality of everyday life
- That we can overcome our difrerences for a higher goal.
- I like the idea of "open discussion its a breath of fresh air
from professors who like to hear themselves talk.
- People truly believe that the world
is open to them. That "you can be whatever want.". The world is
not all middle-class white Americans.
- how one thing have different meanings-I watched babe w/my
godson, and I definately (sic) didn't get anything out of it
- I never really noticed how, race, gender + class are
Everywhere-even in a child's movie.
- There are many ways to look a a (sic)
certain subject. The key is to have an open mind.
- I didn't realize that a child's movie like Babe had so many
messages about life and how much it relates to humans.
- Many people are similar in this class.
- overcoming steotypes
- ?
- Watching the movie helped to show how one person's view is not
always the majorities. With that in mind, going along with the
majority is not always correct.
- Realizing the messages in Babe
- Disney vs. WB-made me think about violence.
- The discrimination that lie in children (sic) movies
- The learning techniques used.
- How race, gender, class impact our society. Overall, what this
class will open our minds to corruption-stereotype, opinion,
etc.
- I liked the group discussions
- agree to disagree everyone has there (sic) own opinion
- I learned alot(sic) during this class and about social
issues
- His teaching technique + ability to actively empathize.
- That people who are different can work together and get along
if they give one another a chance
- Don't judge anyone until you get to know them
- I got me thinking about different issues.
- A reminder that we are all at
different levels of awareness on these issues + that very fact if
we're open to it is we can help each other learn.
3. What question(s) remain uppermost in your mind as we
end?
- I have too many to list right now. Hopefully, it will
clear up as we move ahead.
- Will I have the time to do my best job on all course
work?
- what's the topic for tomorrow
- Equality
- None
- will I be able to handle the work
- Why do such issues occur?
- How am I going to do all this work without having a breakdown
and hold a full time job.
- Why are people so set in their
ways
- Why do we judge people the way we do
- I feel the end of the movie shows the hypocrisy of our world.
People need to prove themselves first + then they are
accepted.
- The "voice" journals are still not clear.
- Why we saw the entire movie
- I want to make sure I fully understand the course "work".
- How can we use this?
- What do I have to do for this class tonight.
- Do I stay in this class?
- How will I be able to handle the volume of work.
- will I be able to handle this course
- How will be able to do all this reading + get all these
projects
- Why does the educational system allow for this to
bread(sic)
- Will I be able to handle the workload+underatnd the
assignments as a returning adult.
- How far can we go in 5 weeks
- I thought about how stereotypical we
can all get. If we just stop stereotyping then anything is
possible.
- Why do parents blame media
first?
4. What was the "muddiest" point in this session? (In other
words, what was the least clear to you?)
- The paper and presentation.
- The syllabus, but it will all clear up.
- none
- 4x6 index cards
- Can't really answer these questions b/c my mind is processing
many ideas...trying to sort out messages from the movie.
- None, I understand
- The Voice (2)
- Some of the assignments but I guess they will become more
clear later
- some parts of Babe
- nothing (2)
- The bibliography, "voice"
- syllabus
- "Voice" journals
- Everything was presented very clearly
- Who am I like?
- Trying to grasp all that is required.
You speak very fast.
- What will we do tomorrow.
- I didn't quite understand taking on a
role other than myself and using it to communicate. I would like
more clarification on that
- The overview of the assignments required-just how to basically
complete what is due-this is my 1st class at Ramapo + I haven't
been in college since 1994!
- remembering names (bad memory)
- The disney WB Debate
- Homework. I am not confident that I
understand the schedule.
5. Other comments:
- I liked the movie. This was the second time I watched
it, but actually got more out of it. It's not just a kids
movie.
- I am very excited about the subject matter-just
concerned about the time commitment.
- I am excited to be in your course. I love your
enthusiasm!
- Fast + furious but good stuff!
- I think I am going to enjoy this class.
- The "Circle Time" is foolish. being in a circle doesn't
facilitate learning. I feel like I'm in Kindergarden.
- This course will be interesting:=:)
