- What is Student Development?
The mission of Student Development is to address the extracurricular component of the student's college experience. This unit offers a variety of services and programs, including advisement and program support for clubs and organizations and educational, social, and developmental programs and activities for students, paying particular attention to leadership development and the special concerns and needs of international students, women, people of color, new students, parents and other unique populations in a diverse community. 1995 Facts & Figures
- History
The Vice President has created a student development unit as "core" to perform all student development activities with a lead person for each function and back up people to fill in. They have a "calendar" of key Student Affairs activities, with lead persons appointed to head up each function. They have taken a "clinic" rather than "boutique" approach. Since there are endless groups that want to be served by individual offices, the number of offices Student Affairs might be asked to create could be enormous. The "clinic" approach, is an alternative that appears to be working well, partly because of a very competent staff in Student Affairs, and also due to the fact that they work well as a team (M&H Group Inc.
