General Job Description
The Student Development Program Assistant will report to the
Acting Dean of Students , Coordinator of Student Activities and
Director of Greek Affairs and Leadership Education. Staff members are
responsible for the preparation, implementation and follow-through
necessary to conduct all student and parent orientation programs over
the course of the summer; coordination of Student Activities programs
for summer students; publicity, promotions, and posting related to
Student Activities/Student Development; and coverage of the summer
office. As an employee of Ramapo College, the Program Assistant is
expected to support and adhere to the rules, regulations and policies
of this office and the college.
Specific Duties
- Work an average of 20-25 hours per week, up to 40 hours a week
when student orientations are in progress.
- Heavy phone work, light typing, word-processing, data entry,
filing and other administrative duties, (appropriate training will
be provided).
- Planning and implementation of summer student activities
programs, such as: summer block party, "cool down's", movie
nights, trips, etc.
- Posting of approved publicity and promotions throughout
campus.
- Inventory and collection of supplies, for example,
transporting boxes, organizing materials, assembling packets.
- Some artistic ability necessary for posters, flyers, bulletin
boards, name tags, etc.
- Conduct student and parent workshops, such as, Campus Tours,
Challenge Course, New Beginnings, Diversity/Multi-Culturalism,
Student to Student, etc.
- Assist in coordinating and supervising social and recreational
activities for orientation attendees.
- Assist with the FAR Program (Freshman Advisement &
Registration) coordinated by the Advisement Center andAcademic
Affairs where extensive training will be given in developmental
academic advisement.
- Plan fall part-time employee training with the Coordinatorof
Student Activities and the Director of the Student Center
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean and/or
Coordinator of Student Activities

- Enthusiasm and the ability to work well with other
people.
- The ability to speak in front of large groups.
- Flexibility and creativity.
- Knowledge/familiarity with one or many of the following
computer applications:
o Spreadsheet analysis (Microsoft Excel)
o Database management (MicrosoftAccess)
o Word processing (Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect)
o Desktop Publishing (Adobe Pagemaker and PhotoShop, Corel Draw or
Microsoft PowerPoint)
o Web page design and Internet applications (Microsoft Front page
or Claris Home Page)
o Information systems (Campus Vision, MASIS, Campus Source)
